One Week Poetry Challenge

Hey guys! This month I thought I’d share a One Week Poetry Challenge! I’ll share the prompts and the poems I ended up writing for them!

 1. Painting the Sky

The hand that paints the sky must be brilliant,

To dream up new colors every day,

for even the blue,

varies in hue,

And the orange/gold shades,

that close out the day,

are unique every time,

Who can possibly have such a mind,

That paints pink every morning,

and transitions dark to light,

The hand that paints the sky,

must have a lot of love,

for how else could such a remarkable feat be done?

2. Jealousy

I envy the way you move,

you float and flow,

even in strict lines,

It makes me believe in magic.

I envy your mind,

the words on the page,

strung together as if they were meant to be,

And it’s once again proof of magic.

I envy you wit,

You smile,

Your talent.

But my envy won’t make me magic

So I guess I need to find it for myself

3. Black and White

Printer paper,

Daisy petals,

Freshly fallen snow.

Midnight skies,

Ink as it dries,

The screen of a forgotten phone.

Rain clouds in the morning,

And the hard metal tray,

Everything gets blended,

Black white and grey.

4. Roots

On the surface it’s hard to tell,

Just how far down the roots have fell.

How strong are the veins that have taken hold,

Or are they all simply caked with mold.

Some seem strong,

But are broken underneath.

And some seem weak,

But are flourishing unseen.

And sometimes the parts that feel the deepest,

The ones that must be ingrained,

Are actually pretty shallow in their own way.

So that if you were to go and dig them out,

You’d see them frail and crumble.

So don’t be afraid to uproot,

Or get your hands dirty.

Because the strong ones will persevere,

And the weak ones will fall,

And you will be left with who you truly are.

5. Solid ground

Solid ground beneath my feet,

Yet I have never felt so free.

My head up in the clouds,

Yet feeling like I’m falling down.

Both high and low,

At the same time,

But I know that it’s all alright.

6. Zoom in

Did I look too closely at our love,

Or did you not even try?

Was my microscope the problem,

Or did you turn a blind eye?

Did I go in to deep,

Or did you simply wade?

And did I really break us up,

Or did you watch our love fade?

7. Our own world

We all live in our own worlds,

We make up our own stories,

And color our experiences with them.

We build up walls,

And we tear them down,

Reality is simply our perception.

For there is what happens,

And then there is the stories we tell ourselves about it.

We construct our worlds,

Often not with what we want,

But what we expect.

So if we’re going to make our own worlds anyway,

I’d like to make mine a welcoming place.

I’d like to view life as beautiful.

And most of all, I’d like to share it with you
