Solo Date Activities

Summer is usually busy and I always set a personal goal to make plans with as many people as I can and do a bunch of fun things. But it’s also important to spend some time with yourself, so I made sure to pencil that in for this summer too.

One of my 25 in 25s (essentially my goals list for the year) was to go on a solo date. The first thing I had to figure out though, is what does a solo date really entail?

First:

Getting ready as if you're actually going on a date. Treating yourself like someone you love and putting in the extra effort you would for another person.

So I chose some cute, comfortable clothes (I wore a Taylor Swift shirt to impress my target audience: me :) and did my hair. The goal is to make this feel different from an errand, it needs to feel special and intentional.

Second:

It's important to consider the location. I chose a café because I absolutely love coffee shops. (I actually prefer coffee dates in general.)

Here are a few things to consider as you're thinking of a location:

-choose someplace you feel comfortable

-consider going somewhere you've been wanting to go but haven't in a long time

-ensure it's some place you could spend at least an hour.

You want to go someplace that sparks joy (again, you are the target audience!)

Third:

Is figuring out what activities to do while on the date.

If you're chosen a location that comes with an activity (example: a nice dinner) then take in the atmosphere and really live in the moment. (Think about it as if you were on a date with someone else, you would likely be commenting on the place and the food and talking about your associations with the things you observe.)

If you've chosen a location that is more open ended (like my cafe date or a picnic) then I suggest bringing a journal with some journaling prompts/questions. (Much like how you would have a conversation with the other person, journaling allows you to have a conversation with yourself.)

The main point is to spend time with yourself and enjoy your own company.

For my solo date, I brought a journal and a book to read/ Reading is one of my favorite ways to spend time with myself so I felt it was fitting. So I suggest bringing anything that sparks joy, or doing something that simply allows you to be.

I hope this guide helps you and that you take some time to appreciate yourself a little bit too. As I've always said, your relationship with yourself is the most important one you'll ever have since it's the one that will be there for your whole life. Which is why it’s extra important to foster it well!

Thanks for reading! I'll see you next month!
