Tips On Moving On

Image
One of the most important things I’ve learned, both this year and throughout my life, is how to move on. Now, that’s a bold claim. I don’t know if any of us know how to move on, there isn’t one way and each situation is different and unique. That said, I have accumulated some tips that aid in the process of moving on. Obviously, this won’t always apply to every single thing, but it might be a good jumping off point. I find that the tips I’m about to outline are useful for dealing with things like: rejection, mistakes, mid to minor life events, relationships/people, etc. So with that said, let’s being! -Perspective We’ve all heard this saying. But really what time provides is distance from those intense feelings and perspective on the events that happened. So one way to gain that distance and perspective without the passage of time, since you can’t just sit and wait, is using the 10/10/10 method. This method is actually used in decision making (I’m sure a lo...

What is it like to be Demiromantic?

Image
NOTE: As with other sexualities this is a spectrum, I am just here to talk about where I fall in it. It’s not the same for everyone and there are always different experiences. So for the month of February I thought I’d talk about something that many people may not have heard of that is true for me, being demiromantic. Let’s being with: what does demiromantic even mean? Well it’s defined, for the most part as: Usually people who are demiromantic don’t really get crushes easily, or experience attraction strangers, or even experience the normal kind of romantic attraction that comes from meeting someone you’re interested in. It takes longer to develop romantic feelings since there needs to be an emotional connection of some kind first. As a result, it often starts with friendships. Now how does it work for me? I don’t really get crushes easily. The last time I remember having a crush was sixth grade when my classmates started to convince me that a guy l...

I Tried Only Doing What I Want For A Day

Image
And this is how it turned out.... How many times have you seen a quote that says something along the lines of: live each day like it’s your last, only do what you want, etc. Well, not too long ago I rediscovered a tumblr post that said the following: And I thought, alright, challenge accepted. I figured it would be hard (the post even says it) because many of the things done in a day are out of necessity, like going to work, or because you have to, like completing homework. And I knew it would be difficult to push those responsibilities aside, I just didn’t realize how hard it would be. My first hurdle, as silly as it sounds, was calling out of work. Now, this could have been avoided had I scheduled time off, but for some reason, perhaps because I was afraid of being denied, I didn’t. As a result, I proceeded to make a very anxiety-inducing call about being sick and not being able to come in. Playing hooky is something everyone has done at some point, but it’s more fore...

3 Things I Learned in 2019

Image
STEPPING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE is the best way to garner new experiences, new understandings and new perspectives on life. 2019 was my most uncomfortable year and therefore the most interesting year. Every step along the way, I veered off the path and the results were mixed, some good, some not as good, but all led me to a better understanding of life and more importantly, growth . It seems pretty obvious that if you want to experience new things you have to try new things, but it’s been a hard thing for me to do. I’m a very…safe person and for me to step out of my carefully crafted, safe and oriented mentality was a challenge, perhaps why I’ve never done it out of my own volition before. But this year, I tried to throw caution to the wind and just try, and I’m so glad I did. Something I started implementing this year as a way to continue to step out of my comfort zone, and to just do things I’ve always wanted was setting a goal every month to try something new. It could b...

5 Quotes To Live By

Image
Words To Live By So, for this post I thought I’d outline some of quotes that I actually live by and explain my thought process behind them. 1. “We’re all stories in the end, just make it a good one, eh” This quote is my all time favorite and something I really truly believe in. I strongly believe the idea that the world is built up on stories and the lives of people will end up being stories that keep the world and humanity going. And as the doctor says, make yours a good one. I try to do things in my life that add to my experiences, to my story, so that when I look back, I can see the different twists and turns and chapters that make my story meaningful and exciting. And stories are not linear, they are not always happy, they are up and down and happy and sad and everything in between. So is life. Your story is unique, there will never be another like it, and all you can do is make the best of it. 2. “Never save anything for a special occasion, being alive...

Implementing Lifestyle Changes

Image
How to Implement Lifestyle Changes It can be very difficult to change the way you do things, especially when it’s a part of your routine. But lately I’ve realized that, somehow, I’ve been making progress towards changing my lifestyle into something I want. So, I decided to break down how I've managed to do it and come up with a few techniques to implement a lifestyle change. Reminders: The most obvious one I know. But often times the hardest part of implementing a lifestyle change is to remember that you need to be doing it. Having a reminder has really helped me remember to do something I don't normally do.  For example, I am terrible at drinking water consistently. I only really drink water when I’m thirsty and therefore never hit the required amount that you’re supposed to reach in a day. So, I followed an account on twitter that notifies me to drink water every hour. (For those of you interested the account is: @bot_hydrated ) There are many diff...

Organization and Goals

Image
How to break down and organize the goals you set I am really big on organization; I literally have a list for everything. But I get that not everyone is the same and for that reason I have broken up this post into different levels of organization that you can follow based on what you’re comfortable with. I’ll relate this specifically to setting goals, but this can be used in whatever way you prefer. For me, this is about a way to keep track of where you’re going and measure productivity. In life it can be easy to lose track of what you’re trying to do or feel like you’re not accomplishing anything day to day. This is my way of combating that. If I organize things, I can clearly see what I’m doing and ensure that I’m moving in a positive direction. Level 1: Month This is the broadest level you can organize on. Basically, this is what you need, or want, to do every month. Write out, and I mean physically write or type out, the things that you will feel accomplished about...
